Nature has always been my mentor: its intriguing shapes and textures; its combinations of  lines and color created by light and shadow; its ability to evoke memory of place in the most non-objective ways.

These abstract qualities informed my early study of music as well as my recent former textile work. They now come to call in my current studio practice: combining drawing and painting with oil paint sticks and paint on panel.

My change in practice feels like a leap into yet another seductive and mysterious realm of creativity. Each step on my path is a process of discovery. This is truly a deeply intuitive, challenging and exciting personal journey for me. It feels like I have come full circle to my true calling. As a teenager, I first began to paint. And now years later, after following the path of  my rich, creative life experience, I am back to painting with gusto and passion.

Selected + Collected

I am so thankful for the positive response to my work and to the collectors who choose to live with my work! You can check out a selection of collected works here.

“Before putting a name to any kind of object, I first see it as color, shape, line, and movement. These foundational qualities are inherently moving to me, perhaps as much as the object itself. As a deeply intuitive person, I enjoy the process of making decisions and exploring discoveries moment by moment, rather than knowing the destination or even the way forward. This, to me, is the exciting process that brings the work to life.” - Carmen Grier
